As a Site Reliability Engineer you will play a crucial role in one of Meteogroup’s cross functional product development teams, which are responsible for developing, deploying, managing, and scaling Meteogroup’s many industry leading weather products.

The cross-functional product development teams include software developers, QA engineers, and product owners. These teams employ agile and lean principles in a culture of constant learning and improving. Well defined process and automation enable our teams to deploy their applications at greater velocity, with increased certainty. As a Site Reliability Engineer at Meteogroup, you’ll be charged with helping to define these processes, driving towards a CI/CD culture where observability and testing are of utmost importance.

Every member of the team should have intimate familiarity with all of the team’s products, and feel comfortable switching between roles as needed. Some days you’ll be building new deployment pipelines, some days you’ll be writing automated tests to validate your deployments. As a SRE, you’ll be cooperating closely with our Infrastructure Platform team and the in-house 24/7 Incident Management team to support your products in production.

You should be comfortable working with container technologies (Docker, rkt) and container orchestration frameworks (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Nomad). Other technologies that will be used are Icinga2, Graphite, Tomcat, Git, Bamboo, MySQL, PostgreSQL. Experience with these is therefore key.

Other key responsibilities:

  • Support our migration to public cloud providers and use state-of-the-art monitoring platforms to gain insight into your applications;
  • Code effectively using tools suitable for the task (i.e., Python, Shell, Ruby, etc.);
  • Work closely with your team to ensure that the applications you create are properly instrumented, and that important metrics are being tracked and visualized.

Depending on your preference, you will be based in our headquarters in Wageningen or at our new co-working space in Utrecht, right next to the Central Station.
Our requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent work experience with excellent system administration skills;
  • Experience with public cloud providers and geographically distributed applications;
  • Experience with container technology, such as Docker or rkt, and container orchestration frameworks, such as Kubernetes, AWS ECS, or Nomad;
  • Experience with monitoring and metrics collection tools such as Prometheus and Graphite;
  • A strong focus on instrumentation and observability;
  • Proven problem solving skills focused on quick outage recovery and root cause analysis;
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on new responsibilities;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
