Full-timeJunior Consultant Financial Services

Software Improvement Group (SIG) – Posted by Irene Badu Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands

Job Description

Who we are and how we work

Software is eating the world. Will you help us in our mission to make this high-quality software? As a consultant at the Software Improvement Group you will advise technology leaders on their business-critical software systems: how to improve quality, how to reduce risks and how to control costs. You will accomplish this by tool-assisted source code investigation and proven risk and cost analysis methodologies. Typically, you will work project-based for 6 to 8 weeks per project together with a small team of technology specialists headed by a senior or principal consultant. You’ll simultaneously be working on several projects. Our headquarters are in Amsterdam where you will be based. Your main focus will be the Financial Services Industry in which you will interact with senior leaders adding value through your technical knowledge and advisory skills in a sometimes-political context.

Where you come in

As a core member of the consultant team, you will work autonomously and deliver on different project phases. Typically, your work will consist of:

  • strategic interviews with senior clients, understanding their needs and the context of the project
  • technical interviews with lead architects and lead developers to understand the technological context
  • code, documentation and infrastructure analysis in our SIG ISO certified laboratory
  • validate your findings with all stakeholders
  • presenting the results and provide recommendations to the client

What's in it for you?

  • We provide you with rigorous training in management consulting, our SIG toolset, methodologies and software strategy – by very experienced colleagues
  • Access to senior management at world-class clients from day one
  • Your colleagues are fun, young and exceptionally well-educated people
  • Work schedules are flexible and many people successfully plan around their young families
  • Insight in all big Dutch financial institutions and the possibility to go international

On the personal side you’ll receive on-the-job learning and coaching, adjusted to your personal needs, helping you to reach your individual development goals, being anything between technical skills and personal effectiveness.

We are not really interested in people who are just looking for a job. Rather, we are interested in people who would like to make a difference and who believe software can and should do a better job in enabling the organisations in which it runs and the clients who make use of it. We have big dreams about improving the quality of software throughout the world, and we expect you to have the same to help us in achieving these!

  • A completed master degree in a technical subject
  • Analytical and able to simplify large collections of data
  • Self-starter
  • A writer of concise documents
  • Creative and convincing
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English
  • Experience with software development
  • Eager to learn

Nice to have

  • Experience in consultancy and project management
  • Experience in the financial sector for instance through an internship
  • Understanding of business management and boardroom issues
