Full-time Infrastructure Engineer

Job Description

As Infrastructure Engineer you will become part of the MeteoGroup Platform team, which is part of a cross-functional group that cooperates closely with our product development teams, the Site Reliability Engineering team and the in-house 24/7 Incident Management team. You will be based in Berlin, and report to the Head of IT Operations.

You will be creating the infrastructure for MeteoGroup’s future weather forecast systems. An efficient and reliable back-end is the cornerstone of our platform, so we are seeking highly motivated and qualified Linux, DevOps, network and full stack engineers.

We currently have a broad technology stack and we are in the process of consolidating and moving to container technologies (Docker) and container orchestration frameworks (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Nomad). Other technologies that will be used are Icinga2, Graphite, Tomcat, Git, Bamboo, MySQL, PostgreSQL, haproxy. This transformation will be a multi year journey and you will be playing a crucial role.

As Infrastructure Engineer you will be creating the infrastructure for MeteoGroup’s future weather forecast systems.

Key responsibilities:

  • Drive consolidation of existing infrastructure and services and migrate them to AWS cloud infrastructure;
  • Design and implement fully automated service provisioning solutions using modern open source tools, in close cooperation with the development teams and stakeholders;
  • Reverse engineering and trouble shooting;
  • Work with agile and lean principles in a culture of constant learning and improving.

Our requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent with excellent system administration skills;
  • Experience with large linux installations, infrastructure automation and monitoring;
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or Ansible;
  • Experience with public cloud providers and geographically distributed applications;
  • Ability to code effectively using tools suitable for the task (i.e., Python, Shell, Ruby, etc.);
  • Proven problem solving skills focused on quick outage recovery and root cause analysis;
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take on new responsibilities;
  • A strong focus on instrumentation and observability;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.
