Full-timeDevOps Engineer

Auterion AG – Posted by Auterion Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland

Job Description

Engineering | Zurich, Switzerland | Full-time

Who we are:

Auterion is the largest open source drone software company and is a leader in a movement that is bigger than itself. The company builds the open source operating system for commercial drones on top of PX4, the most widely used flight controller for drones. Our mission is to connect the community of developers, contributors, and companies creating better technology the open source way. Auterion is co-founded by Lorenz Meier, creator of Pixhawk, founder of PX4 and named MIT Innovator 35 under 35, and Kevin Sartori, UC Berkeley MBA and drone industry expert from Silicon Valley.

What you tell your family you do:

“I’m helping to build the world’s largest open source ecosystem for drones by working with Auterion customers and with a global developer community. Together, we integrate the latest technologies and ensure that we build the safest software stack for drones. No, I will not deliver you a pizza with a drone (just yet)!“

What you really do:

As a DevOps engineer, you will join an international agile development team working on the Continuous Integration and Delivery infrastructure used to build and test Auterion software. You will play a central role in scaling, automating and managing core parts of our AWS cloud-based infrastructure. You will act as an "engineer for the engineers," helping others understand and leverage the architecture and platform underlying their software. Your main task will be to contribute to the design, development and operations of the CI/CD infrastructure following modern devops practices (infrastructure as code) and contribute to the development and maintenance of build pipelines.

We currently have a container-based microservice architecture. We use technologies such as AWS, ECS, Linux, GitHub, Docker and Jenkins/Gitlab CI.

In detail you will:

  • Automate everything. To build and maintain a robust, secure and efficient platform, you will automate deployment, monitoring and operations. You focus on simplicity and incremental delivery, not on mega integrations.
  • You practice and preach the importance of maintainability. You like to keep your code and designs simple, readable and testable.
  • You understand the importance of testing and enjoy implementing best practicesinto the team. Furthermore, you engage daily in code reviews and promote software engineer best practices.
  • Passion for modern approaches. You will be working with state of the art technologies (Terraform, AWS, Docker) and you support continuous improvement by investigating and proposing alternatives, with a pragmatic approach.

We would love to hear from you if:

  • Experience with automating deployment and integration pipelines (highly preferred using technologies like Git, Terraform, AWS, Docker)
  • Experience with pipeline CI systems like jenkins/gitlab.
  • Experience in Linux operating system and scripting skills.
  • Strong coding skills in at least one programming language. We use C++, Rust and Python among others.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems and container technology.
  • Good knowledge of modern software engineering principles and techniques such as: continuous deployment, code reviews, test-driven development, 12 factor app and trunk based development.
  • Proficient in system administration and and system debugging.
  • Positive, pro-active team player who is passionate about their craft and cares about helping the team deliver.
  • Experience running CI/CD infrastructure for 2 years in an agile environment
  • Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to others in English.

Nice to have:

  • Higher academic degree in Information Technology.

What you will find at Auterion:

  • A Silicon Valley style startup (we know, we were part of one) in the heart of Switzerland, but with a truly global reach.
  • We have all the perks you would expect from a great startup: an amazing industry (Robotics and Drones...need we say more), incredible office space, a smart multidisciplinary team, a flexible workplace, plenty of food in the kitchen, and a pure mission that binds us all together
  • Plenty of opportunities to fly all possible drones in the field just 2 minutes from our office 🙂
  • You will be based in the heart of Switzerland in Zurich’s bustling city life, which is in close proximity to the natural beauty of the country and – of course – the Swiss Alps.
  • Competitive salary and generous stock option plan.
