Meet Jess Pashos!

Faces Of FareHarbor - Jess Pashos

FareHarbor is going to our Tech Job Fair in Amsterdam today. For those of you who are job-seeking, this is an incredible opportunity to get your dream job!

A FareHarbor veteran, Jess was one of the first people to join our Sales team in Needham, MA. Now the VP of Sales Operations in our Amsterdam office, she’s bringing the best of FareHarbor to our friends in Europe. If you partner with FareHarbor, it’s likely Jess has been involved in your go-live in one way or the other. Let’s get to know her!

You just moved to Europe! What’s been your top place to visit so far?

Well, Amsterdam has been amazing. One morning, I woke up at 5am and biked to the I Amsterdam sign before the crowds got there. I watched the sunrise and took some cool pictures of the sign and the Rijksmuseum. I’ve also had some fun trips to other cool cities in the Netherlands.

Outside of the Netherlands, I went to Stavanger, Norway for a long weekend and did some awesome hikes. It is so beautiful there, I cannot wait to go back!

What do you miss most about the Boston area?

Besides all of the rippers in our Needham office and my family and friends, the Red Sox have had an incredible season, and I used to be able to make it to quite a few games at Fenway as I’ve always lived so close to the city.

I think I’ll miss the enthusiasm in the Boston area during all games (baseball, hockey, football, etc) the most.

What’s next on your tour/activity bucket list?

My dad has a work trip in London in a few weeks so he is coming a weekend early. We are meeting in Scotland and hiking the Cairngorms 4000s loop. 21 miles total! And we will hit 5 of the highest peaks in Scotland.

I have a long bucket list though, and as the list of companies that we partner with in the EU grows, that list gets longer and longer!

We have been out with a few of our local clients already including Flagship Cruises and Walks of Europe. We had an amazing time. And when we all first arrived, we immediately got bikes from one of our first live EU companies – Mike’s Bike Tours!

What’s been the most surprising difference about life in Amsterdam?

The same day that I got on the plane to Amsterdam, I sold my car. I knew that things would be different without it, but I have been pleasantly surprised!

We are able to bike everywhere and transportation is super easy, even to surrounding towns and internationally. I thought that I would miss the freedom that a car can but things have been smooth sailing!

You’ve been at FareHarbor for a while. What about this place makes you want to stick around?

The people! I get excited coming to work every single day. What’s even cooler is that our Amsterdam office is bringing together employees from our Boston, Denver and soon, San Francisco offices.

Even though some employees had not met in person before, it felt as if we were one big family right off of the bat. As we start to welcome our first EU hires, everyone just fits right in. Being around so many awesome people with different backgrounds and the same big picture goals makes it a lot of fun to come to work each day.

Not to mention that we work with the coolest clients ever and have the industry-leading product… I could go on and on!

Describe your job at FareHarbor in three words.

Different every day!

Please don’t forget, FareHarbor is at our Tech Job Fair in Amsterdam today! Please bring your CVs and your best smile! This could be the event that changes your future for the better!

Our Amsterdam Tech Job Fair will be happening this 11th of April. Get tickets here to join us.

For the meantime, here is some important information you need to know about Starware to prepare yourself before the job fair starts.

What’s the story behind the creation of Starware?

Starware was founded by two friends in 1992 as a small computer hardware company in Reeuwijk. A lot has changed over time.

The two friends have become a group of more than 45. The computer components have been replaced by IT solutions and services for the logistics and Supply Chain world.

Starware has also opened new offices in Venlo and Hamburg. What has always remained is the open corporate culture, a good balance between work and home and an original, humorous approach.

What’s your company culture like?

Our organisation is as flat as it gets, we have no management layers and organise flexible cells around the work we do. We strongly believe in empowering our teams to get jobs done.

We always keep in mind that we are in it for the long run, and want our co-workers to feel great of the work they are doing and how they are doing it.

What is your team like? How do you work?

As our teams consist of trained software developers with a huge interest in supply chains, we tend to look at things a little different than the usual supply chain consultant.

Our ideas are always set out with an agile mindset, we challenge the status quo and often solve problems in ways nobody looked at yet.

What kind of people are you looking for?

Starware is open to all and we enjoy the diversity of our team, regardless of what they look like, where they come from, how they worship or who they love.

What binds us is that we all want to do good work, our drive to keep improving, have a good sense of humor and our ability to put things into perspective.

Who’s the best match for your team?

Do you have a passion for logistics software? Our dream team-member already has JDA WMS experience or has worked on other WMS and is eager to learn about newest technologies.

But most importantly, you are a team-player with great problem solving and analytical skills, who works in a precise and structured way. You are proactive in suggesting your own ideas to the client when you see potential for solution improvements.

What benefits and perks do you offer your employees?

  • Latest technologies. Be part of implementing advanced Machine Learning and AI in the WMS space while building software via the latest Microsoft Stack and frameworks & tools like MS DevOps, Git, Angular & Azure.
  • Work - Life Balance and Flexibility. Choose where and when to work, avoid traffic and pick up your kids from school.
  • Awesome colleagues. We work and party together. Our teams consist of exceptional professionals with an even more exceptional sense of humour!
  • Professional development opportunities. Starware encourages learning and training in your chosen field.
  • Be part of the family. Starware is dedicated to keep the family-like atmosphere, which made the company so successful in the first place.
  • Diversity and Excellence. We hire based on talent and personality, not based on nationality.
  • Party & Team Spirit. Participate in the famous Starware parties & team-building events where you might have to break free from prison or run wild trough the woods…
  • Excellent Benefits. Pension plan, extra holidays, lease car, latest apple gear.

Quotes from employees:

“There are no “formal bosses” at Starware. Even the company owners are holding themselves equal to the rest of Starware colleagues. This is one of the main reasons why I work here. ” – Martijn Bergevoet, WMS developer & configurator

“At Starware, we have very straightforward communication and there is always someone to reach out to in case you need help.” – Marco Schouwenaar, Senior WMS Consultant.

“To me, the most surprising thing about Starware is the amount of trust that the company owners put in Starware employees. They truly believe in you and help you grow as a professional.”  – Monika Martinkova, People Operations Manager

Software Improvement GroupSoftware Improvement Group (SIG) is on the cutting edge of technology and will be able to see you personally at our Tech Job Fair in Amsterdam!

We were able to ask them some questions about their company, which they were glad to answer.

Software Improvement Group

1. Who are the creators of your brand (company)? What do they do in life, what are they passionate about?

Software Improvement Group (SIG) was a spin-off in 2000 from the CWI (Dutch: Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica, the Center for Mathematics and Informatics). The founders were passionate about creating analysis methods to give objective insight into the quality and risks of complex software systems. They wanted to translate scientific knowledge into practically applicable services. In doing so, they created a sort of MRI scanner for software that shows which parts can be improved, thereby removing risk.

2. What's the story behind the creation of your company? What inspired you to start your business?

In 2000, there was concern about the Millennium bug. Many software programs represented four-digit years with only the final two digits — making the year 2000 indistinguishable from 1900. The assumption was that the turn of the millennium would result in various errors which could then cause significant incidents. During this time, researchers at the CWI were finding ways of analysing such a software system to understand the impact of the millennium change. This initiated the beginning of Software Improvement Group - using scientific models to examine very complex software systems and give practical advice on how to mitigate the risks.

3.What's your current view on the market you work in? What makes you feel like your brand stands out?

Software is eating the world. Software systems are critical in every organisation, whether it's a governmental organisation digitising its voting system or a bank automating dispute cash backs. Altogether, the complete software ecosystem of a single company can consist of hundreds of systems built with millions of lines of code in various programming languages. This can make changes or innovation a risky business. Digitisation started in the early ’60s, but did you know that many enterprises are still depending on software code that was written back then? Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of all these technologies is vital in creating a roadmap for the future. This is where SIG comes in: we start with analysing and understanding software code, figuring out the risks and opportunities based on those facts, and then continue to help advise and coach our customers on to get to their desired state of software quality and processes. Everything aimed at creating a better, safer and healthier technology for a brighter future.

4. What's the thing that you appreciate/value/cherish more about what you do as a brand?

SIG has the only software lab in the world that is accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025 for software quality analysis. This is actually the same accreditation held by a blood-testing lab, for example, which means that we have developed a methodology that can analyse the quality of code objectively and compare it against our global benchmark. On top of that, we have brilliant management consultants, who can map the results of the software lab to the business goals a customer might have. They can then explain to both business and technology leaders how they can drive their organisational objectives by fundamentally improving the health and security of their software applications.

5. Do you have a special story of something unique you did for a client? Something unusual you did as a team, something memorable you'd like to share?

We have a lot of cool stories! You can find them here on our website. We're all super proud to work for SIG based on the fact that by analysing code, we can identify and quantify hidden risks that can have a massive impact not only on companies - but also on society. For example, think about how you make digital payments, do your tax declarations or even set your car on autopilot... all of this is controlled by software! So you can imagine the impact we make as a team in creating a safer and healthier digital world.

6. What's your company culture like? What is that you want to represent?

SIG has an open, warm and approachable culture, where knowledge sharing is vital to our development. Our organisational structure is relatively flat, and it's crucial to us all that we inspire each other. That's why we've always made a point to come together as a company every Friday for snacks, drinks, sport, catching up and idea sharing.

Software Improvement Group

7. What is your team like? How do you work?

Collaboration is part of our DNA here at SIG. We're a very collaborative group here, spanning teams and departments. All this comes with a lot of fun and laughs, as we all enjoy learning from each other.

8. What kind of people are you looking for? Who's the best match for your team?

We are looking for people who are not afraid to challenge themselves, like to learn and develop in their skills. Show strong analytical skills, comes from a technical background and enjoy technology.

9. What benefits and perks do you offer your employees? What's the biggest plus of working for you?

Friday level-ups with beer & wine, regular sailing and sport outings, a Company band, and free fresh fruit.

10. What are your goals and plans for the future? What's your biggest ambition?

SIG's mission is 'Getting Software Right'. Of course, we cannot do this by ourselves and we need to extend our reach if we want to have a global impact. This is exactly what we are gearing up for today: to increase our reach tomorrow and impact more countries, businesses and systems. To enable our vision of a global awareness and standard on software quality, SIG is currently investing in expansion of its consulting practice to other countries and continents, in tooling to support our clients and to build partnerships that will carry the word of quality software to the far reaches of the IT space. We are actively working with both government and industry parties to get the IT business to a higher level. Although we will continue doing this in the best way we know, through consultancy, SIG will increase its reach through offering software products and training on an ever-increasing international basis of operations.

Make sure you don’t miss this amazing opportunity! Remember, Software Improvement Group is coming to our Tech Job Fair in Amsterdam! Bring your CVs! You might get the job you’ve been dreaming of at this event! Good luck!

7- Culture and leisure

When it comes to cultural experiences and leisure, Denmark has a lot to offer. No matter what you are interested in, from sports, music and movies to fine arts, opera or museums – you will find it here.
